The often-overlooked Nancy Mutiny was a bloody and important insurrection that occurred during the summer of 1790. Already facing several challenges prior to the fall of the Old Regime, the French army began to deteriorate further in the initial months of the revolution. In a chaotic and disorderly environment, a large mutiny erupted in Nancy, jeopardizing both the safety of the nation and the longevity of the revolutionary project. The events which followed remain controversial, as do the reforms inspired by the infamous rebellion.
